The Ice Cream Farm By Boat

Roam & Roost owners James and Sabrina, take a canal boat family holiday in Cheshire and explore the best places for kids on the Shropshire Union Canal… including The Ice Cream Farm…

“On our recent journey onto the Chester Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal, we were naturally on the lookout for a family day out. We only had two criteria: it had to be affordable and within walking distance from the canal.

“We soon found The Ice Cream Farm in Tattenhall; only a short walk away from the towpath.

“For our two kids, aged 2 and 5, The Ice Cream Farm ticked all the boxes: a great outdoor playground which is suitable for multiple ages, an indoor soft play area and several other play areas, such as a water and sand play, a mini-golf course and, of course, a great selection of ice creams.

“Our kids had an absolute blast and so we returned several times while we were visiting the area. We took advantage of the Play Pass, which includes 5 plays at any of the attractions. You can split the plays in between your children, which makes it even more affordable.

“If you are on a canal boat holiday to Chester, The Ice Cream farm is the perfect family adventure. It is inexpensive and suitable for a wide range of ages. Chester itself is one of the best cities to visit with kids on a canal boat; the City Walls are a great traffic-free route that takes in the whole of the old city centre and connects at several access points with the towpath.”

The best way to get to The Ice Cream Farm by barge!

“It can be tricky to access The Ice Cream Farm from the canal if you don’t know the best route, so learn from our mistakes and follow our simple instructions:

“The best place to moor up with your boat is between bridges 112 and 113. From here, you take an unmarked footpath along peaceful meadows. Soon, you’ll reach the access road to Tattenhall Marina. Carry on, cross the bridge and follow the quiet road along to the very end. Now you only need to cross the road (there are traffic lights here to cross it safely) and you have reached The Ice Cream Farm! In total, it takes about 15 minutes from the towpath until you reach the entrance to The Ice Cream Farm.”

Roam & Roost’s Ice Cream Farm Review…

“The Ice Cream Farm in Tattenhall is, in our opinion, the perfect outing for the whole family, especially if you are on a canal boat holiday. It’s only a few minutes walk away from the boat, set in very peaceful surroundings, offers something for the whole family and includes delicious ice cream. What else do you need on the perfect day out?”
